Are your teeth broken or cracked? Crowns and Bridges could be the right option to restore your radiant smile.
Crowns are an alternative to restore the entire tooth were a filling is not suitable. The crown covers the whole tooth and is accordingly shaped and coloured to match the original.
Why would I need a Crown?
If you have a problem tooth that is broken or too large to fill, a crown can restore the foundations and appearance of the tooth. A crown is custom made by the Dentist to fit neatly over the original tooth. Were large decay or fillings have broken a tooth, a crown will promote strength. If you have more than one tooth missing, bridging may be required to fill the area.
Preventing damage
A broken or cracked tooth cannot be fixed with a filling, so the tooth needs to be protected with a crown (or cap). Crowns can also be used in conjunction with implants to replace a lost tooth. Crowns can also protect a tooth that has already undergone extensive dental work.
Crown and Bridging Procedure
The existing tooth may undergo an X-ray to assess any impairment before treatment. Your dentist will then re-shape the existing tooth in preparation for the new crown. A mould is then taken of the original tooth after it is shaped. The crown will take up to one or two weeks before it is ready, so a temporary crown will be affixed to the tooth before the final crown is fitted.
